Xef Pirata, located at C/ de l'Àngel, 22 in Altea, is a restaurant that specializes in Spanish cuisine and gastropub fare. The establishment has garnered attention for its innovative tapas, which many describe as a cut above the usual offerings. The menu features a variety of dishes that highlight both creativity and quality. Signature items include the croquetas, known for their creamy interior and crisp exterior, and the patatas bravas, which are said to have a unique sauce that elevates them beyond the ordinary. The taco de corvina stands out as a highlight, praised for its balance of flavors and the freshness of the fish.
The dining atmosphere is lively, though some guests have noted that the close seating can lead to a bustling environment. Reservations are recommended, as the restaurant can fill up quickly. The service is generally attentive, with staff ensuring that dishes are served promptly as guests finish each course. Xef Pirata also offers a selection of artisanal beers brewed locally in Altea, including gluten-free options.
While the quality of the food is often commended, some diners have mentioned that the portion sizes can be on the smaller side, particularly for the price point, which averages around 10 euros per dish. This tasting-menu style allows for sampling multiple dishes, but it may not suit everyone’s appetite. Overall, Xef Pirata presents a compelling option for those looking to explore a modern take on traditional tapas in a vibrant setting.
Overall, the experience was good. The dish offerings are interesting, with two menus and several tapas options. However, the place was clearly overwhelmed by the number of people, and the food arrived lukewarm. Nonetheless, the staff was very friendly and attentive.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "An explosion of flavor in every bite" If you’re a tapas lover, get ready, because this place is in a league of its own. It’s undoubtedly the spot with the most exquisite tapas I’ve ever tried. It’s not just about eating; it’s a sensory experience from start to finish. The must-try dishes: The Croquetas: Absolutely exquisite. With that creamy interior that melts in your mouth and a fine, crispy coating. A perfect ten. The Patatas Bravas: Forget the usual ones. Here they are super original and delicious, with a sauce that has personality, leaving you wanting to order a double portion. The Taco de Corvina: This is on another level. I can only describe it as orgasmic; the balance of flavors and the freshness of the fish are out of this world. The Dessert: A true madness of goodness. The perfect finishing touch for a meal where nothing fell below outstanding. Conclusion: You can feel the passion in the kitchen and the care for the product. If you want to treat yourself and try something that will truly surprise you, this is the place. I will come back a thousand times!

Xef Pirata in Altea has a pleasant atmosphere and a varied menu. The food is good, although the portions are somewhat small for the price. The service at the table was fine, except for the girl who welcomed us. Overall, it was an acceptable experience.

Beautiful, brilliant place. The quality of food is outstanding, and from the smallest kitchen! The staff are fantastic and very helpful for those with food allergies. Cannot recommend highly enough. The sea bass cerviche and prawn carpaccio particularly good!

Incredible restaurant. The experience was exceptional: creative cuisine, each dish has its own distinctive touch. The place is quiet, and the waitstaff is very friendly, attentive, and respectful. We were two people and ordered five dishes. On another occasion, we might try one of the two tasting menus they offer. Incredible value for money. Dishes are around €10. If I had to highlight something we ordered, it was the corvina taco, but everything was delicious; in the end, it comes down to personal taste. They offer craft beer brewed in Altea. They also have a gluten-free beer option. There is no terrace. Reservations are recommended. The service is incredible. They bring each dish as soon as you finish the previous one. It's very well organized, and that's no easy feat with a full dining room in a tapas restaurant. Definitely worth repeating!!!!!

Whenever we're in the area, we love to visit this place. The tables are a bit close together and it can be a little noisy, the service is just okay, but what really stands out is the food. There's a good variety and everything is very tasty. I recommend making a reservation, as there probably won't be a spot if you don't.

The food was out of this world – the menu was excellent, and the quality was the best we have ever tasted. The staff were attentive, helpful, and really added to the experience. We can’t wait to return!

I had high expectations for this place which were thoroughly disappointed. The food is very far away from something that can be described as tapas. Sure, small portions of food on small plates fits the description but that's about it. The food is very pretentious and doesn't live up to the expectations that are built up from reading the menu. Then there is the problem of the food being extremely heavy. We ordered 3 small dishes for 3 people and we couldn't finish it because it felt like we had swallowed rocks. Pricing is somewhat acceptable for the area but the overall experience was abysmal. The service is also very chaotic. We were 3 people but only had two plates which nobody noticed so got up and grabbed a plate and some cutlery from a neighboring table that was empty.

Absolutely the best tapas we have ever tasted. We had the tasting menu for 37euros each. 9 dishes. When you think a dish cannot get any tastier, along comes another one. Could not fault any of it. Really busy place, but the service was brilliant. Well worth the money. Took photos of only 2 dishes, (too busy enjoying it all). Would definitely recommend.

We had a fantastic meal at Xet Pirata! Service was fast. The food was very delicious. It’s a tasting-menu style so the portions are small ( then you can try many dishes). Downside is the venue is a bit small. But I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Altea! What a gem
