El Castell, located at Plaza Tonico Ferrer Nº14 in the historic Old Town of Altea, is a restaurant that draws visitors with its inviting atmosphere and a menu that leans heavily on Italian cuisine. The establishment features both indoor seating adorned with antiques and a charming terrace that allows diners to enjoy their meals al fresco, surrounded by the picturesque architecture of the old town. The ambiance is enhanced by the lively square, which is often bustling with activity.
The menu is highlighted by wood-fired pizzas, which many patrons rave about for their authentic taste and generous portions. Alongside the pizzas, dishes such as lasagna and provolone cheese served with freshly baked bread have received positive remarks. The service is generally noted as attentive, with staff members providing a welcoming presence. However, there have been mixed experiences regarding the speed of service, particularly during busy periods, where some diners have reported longer wait times for their meals.
While many reviews express satisfaction with the quality of food and the overall dining experience, there are also mentions of inconsistency. Some guests have noted that the quality of the pizzas has fluctuated over time, with instances of undercooked dishes. Despite these occasional drawbacks, El Castell remains a popular choice for both locals and tourists seeking a taste of Italy in a beautiful setting. Whether you're enjoying a hearty pizza or a refreshing salad, the combination of good food and a lovely atmosphere makes it a noteworthy stop in Altea.
A marvel! We ordered 2 pizzas that are quite large, two glasses of wine, and a tiramisu dessert to share, all for 40 euros. I would definitely come back, especially since both the upstairs area and the terrace below are really beautiful.

After so many years visiting this restaurant, unfortunately the quality of pizza went down a lot but prices went up. We gave it few chances before to write this review, but every time it was bad and not tasty as always it was be. Last time we were served the pizza which was cold at the bottom and at the top, it was undercooked. The onion in pizza was crunchy, what means it was undercooked. We won’t come again. Two stars instead of one because we have had so many years of tasty experience before.

We stopped here for dinner on the recommendation of my son who was here in the summer. The pizza is very tasty and the tapas too. The staff is very helpful and friendly. There’s a beautiful terrace, and the interior area is unique with its antiques. Highly recommended!

The square has a lively atmosphere, the waiters are friendly, but the food… leaves much to be desired, it’s a tourist trap. The two dishes we ordered were small in quantity and, specifically, the fried calamari… were fried with a little bit of calamari. You can just have a beer here, nothing more, no dishes. We won’t be coming back to this place, it’s a shame.

We were very satisfied with the service and the food! We ordered a provolone as a starter and two pizzas. Everything was truly delicious, definitely worth recommending. Additionally, it’s located in a beautiful alley, creating a very pleasant atmosphere! The attention from the waiters was excellent. Highly recommend 🙌

I loved it. I had been here a year ago, and that’s why I returned as soon as I got back to Altea. The pizza 🍕 from the wood-fired oven 🪵 🔥 💯 was amazing. We also tried the lasagna (super tasty), the cazone (spectacular), and the provolone cheese 🧀 served with baked bread. Everything was delicious 😋. A wonderful Italian restaurant in the historic center of Altea. We will be back.

The best pizza, I love it, I go there every year. The house pizza is amazing. Nice atmosphere and the outdoor seating it’s nice. The service this time wasn’t the best, I was really disappointed. Recommended, you will love it

We ordered three meals and got two relatively quickly. Last one we waited 1.5 hour. Explanation from the waiter side was that they are busy with the guests outside

Nice restaurant where you can sit outside too on the square. It's in the old part of Altea, so very nice buildings and atmosphere. Service is good, we got what we ordered and in a pleasant way. The food was good too. Salad was fresh and tasted good. The pizza tasted also nice and was made in a stone oven. In both cases the portions could be bigger. The salad should have been somewhat more and the pizza a little more topping, also in regard of the prices. For the rest everything was great. I didn't ordered the house wine, but another one and that was very nice.
