Lovely church overlooking Altea, beautiful interior well worth a visit after walk up to the old town. Nice restaurants in square and surrounding for refreshments.

Visiting the Church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo in Altea felt like stepping into a living postcard of the Mediterranean. Its unmistakable blue and white dome, visible from almost any point in the village, is much more than a symbol: it is the heart of Altea. Climbing the cobblestone streets of the old town to reach the square where the church stands is already part of the experience. Every corner of the path invites you to stop, gaze at the sea, and breathe in the tranquility that defines this place. Upon arrival, the view suddenly opens up: the temple, with its light facade and gleaming dome under the sun, dominates the horizon. Inside, the church surprises with its simplicity and brightness. It is not an overloaded space but a serene refuge that harmoniously combines devotion and Mediterranean beauty. I sat in silence for a few minutes, letting the soft echo of prayers and the breeze coming through the open door blend with the view of the sea in the background. The square surrounding it, filled with life, musicians, and terraces, completes the experience. From there, the views of the Mediterranean are simply unforgettable. I left with the feeling of having been in a place where faith, art, and the light of the Levante merge in a unique way. Without a doubt, the essence of Altea lies beneath those blue domes.

This was a lovely church with very nice decorations and it was fun to climb up the narrow cobblestone streets with beautiful Mediterranean views among white houses. We parked at the bottom near the train station. It's early January so we found a spot. I imagine in summer it is possible.

The church is incredibly beautiful, a lovely temple of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación. A square and its cobblestone streets, all lined with white houses that inspire peace as you walk. The church has a beautiful dome, best seen from Sant Miguel Street. Our visit is in mid-December and it is decorated for Christmas.

🖌️⚪ Blue Domes and the Artistic Soul of Altea This church, with its characteristic domes decorated with blue azulejos, is the magnificent crowning glory of a hike through Altea. The town itself captivated us with its tranquility and the omnipresent white of its beautiful townhouses—after the colorful frenzy of Villajoyosa, this is the true "White Lady" of the Costa Blanca. Walking here, you can feel the bohemian spirit—Altea has been a cradle for creators since the 60s, which is evident in the numerous art studios and galleries hidden in the narrow alleys surrounding the temple. Practical tips: 🚗 Parking: I recommend Parking Foietes. It is well-located, and off-season (we visited in November), it is free, and there was absolutely no problem finding a spot. 🗺️ Altea was our "white pearl" on the route. You can find the full list of places we visited in the trip summary attached to my review of the Valencia Cathedral.

These blue domes are a true delight that stands out throughout Altea. You must come and spend some time admiring them because they are magical. There’s a balcony nearby to watch the sunsets, streets with lovely shops, and terraces to eat or drink something; everything is clean and bright. It’s a visit you shouldn’t miss. Today, the church was also open, and we were able to enjoy its interior, with a beautiful altar and the Virgin, as well as stunning vaults. I will never tire of seeing the exterior with its domes, but the whole setting makes Altea a privileged place to visit. These feelings are truly unforgettable.
