The Torrevieja - Pilar de la Horadada trail, officially known as GR 92 E22, is part of the national hiking network in Spain. This 21.4 km trail is located in the scenic region of Murcia and is notable for its relatively gentle terrain, making it accessible for a wide range of hikers. The trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the coastal landscapes and natural beauty of the area, connecting two charming towns along the Mediterranean coast.
As you hike along the GR 92 E22, you'll experience a mix of coastal paths and inland trails. The elevation gain is modest at 111 meters, with a maximum elevation of just 12 meters, which means most of the hike is quite flat and easy to manage. The trail features a variety of landscapes, including sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and lush vegetation. Along the way, you might spot local wildlife and enjoy beautiful views of the sea, especially at sunrise or sunset when the colors are particularly striking.
The trail is best tackled in the cooler months, ideally from October to May, to avoid the heat of summer. It typically takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete, depending on your pace. The trailhead can be accessed easily from either Torrevieja or Pilar de la Horadada, with public transport options available. Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection, as there are limited facilities along the route.
