An excellent restaurant in the port of Cartagena. I really enjoyed the caldero, the Roman-style squid, and the mixed salad.

It was a great experience enjoying a snack. The place is right in the harbor, featuring an indoor dining area and a terrace with views of the cruise terminal. The staff was very friendly. In fact, we asked to move to a different spot because there were some wasps bothering us on the terrace, and the waiter made it easy for us.

The location is very good, but I expected it to be different. The waiter who served us was very unpleasant and gave the impression that he didn't want to work. There is little variety for vegetarians, and they don't offer options when they really could. I expected it to be different. What was really delicious was the vegetable rice and the baby squid. The croquettes are fine for one person, but not enough to share. The chicken salad was very tasty.

Right at the front line of the boats, there's a dining area with an outdoor terrace. It has a children's menu. A quiet place. The rice caldero with fish is very good, the frozen croquettes and the baby squid are acceptable. They serve wine by the glass.

On July 8, 2025, we dined at Rte. Mare Nostrum in the port of Cartagena. There were five of us, three chose the daily menu and two ordered from the à la carte. The menu was overall very good, except for the fish rice, which was so sweet that we couldn't finish it. Everything else was excellent, and the portions were generous, just like the Pan de Cádiz for dessert. The quality-price-service ratio was reasonable, and the service was good. A major flaw was the lack of air conditioning, with temperatures at 35 º and doors and windows open, while the scorching wind swept through the dining area.

The building looks promising from the outside. Once you step in it doesn’t match the expectations. It looks a lot ‘cheaper’ with paper menu’s that weren’t very new any more. We ordered 3 salads and a rice dish. After ordering they brought a nice and clean tablecloth and Some bread (be aware they charge you for that, so if you don’t want to be charged refuse the bread). The salads arrived quite quickly but the rice didn’t arrive until we were finished with our salads. Salads were ok, but mostly greens, the salmon on the Mare Nostrum salad was a small portion. When we asked for the bill they added a Martini Bianco on the bill that wasn’t ours so check your bill.

Wonderful fresh seafood. The calamari was tender yet crisp. The crusty fresh baked beef was delicious. The time salad was great, and I don't usually like tomatoes. You have to end your meal with a café asiatico.

Upon walking in I had to fight to get the attention of one of the waiters, but after asking for a table in Spanish we managed to find an excellent location outside overlooking the marina. We had tapas and all the dishes were excellent including the popular Russian salad, garlic prawns and croquettes. Our waiter spoke English but appreciated our efforts to use Spanish where possible (tip for english travellers who find themselves on the end of bad customer service too often). We'll definitely be back.
