Villa Esperanza, Cartagena, built in 1897, was commissioned by Sandalio Alcantud Oliver on the outskirts of the city (it is now located in the center of the Peral neighborhood). He named it after his eldest daughter, Esperanza. The facade has been preserved as it was, but the interior, despite a thorough restoration with frescoes on the walls, furniture, and countless other details, originally contained numerous works of art and life-sized wooden carvings of indigenous people, a moving nativity scene, a garage with several carriages, a motor vehicle, adjacent houses for the staff, and other eccentricities that the owner could afford. Sandalio arrived in Cartagena at the age of 12 with nothing but ingenuity and a desire to work. He grew and gained importance in the business world, eventually becoming one of the most influential entrepreneurs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, conducting transactions with Germany and the Netherlands. Nowadays, there are no major complications with globalization, but back then, it was a significant achievement, accessible only to a few great entrepreneurs. Today, it is a delight to enjoy a snack in a historic palace. You can do so in peace, as the atmosphere invites it. There is no music, no distractions, except for the thousands of details in each room. The decor is lavishly baroque, and the dim lighting creates a special and cozy atmosphere, bordering on the mysterious. The staff is extremely kind and attentive, the prices are very reasonable, and the menu offers a wide range of shakes, coffees, cocktails, waffles, and crepes... By the way, I didn't find any reviews mentioning whether children were allowed, so I went in to ask, and YES, they can enjoy it too. At 5 PM, the opening hour, there is a snack time for children, and those who wish can stay until 1 AM. It's inevitable to return to this fascinating place!!!

This place has been a great discovery in Cartagena. It is a spectacular villa from the early 20th century, renovated and beautifully decorated with antique furniture and objects. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and the waiters are very attentive and friendly. On the ground floor, there is the cocktail bar. I tried the lemon sorbet, and I loved it. Additionally, the waffles are exquisite. I can't wait to return to try more dishes😊

Great old city house. Nice athmosphere, lots of books, objects from the beginning of the century, when the vila was built. Nice people. Not sure if it's a family run 100% business, like the waiter and all the stuff. Prices about 3 Euro por drink. Marvellous garden! Must be a delight at summer. Totally recommend for lovers of bohemian athmosphere.

Oh My God!! What a beautiful place!! I would've never expected to arrive to a place like that after a very small while of driving through and area with houses that had nothing to them, and I was stunned when we got inside an amazing beautiful victorian-like(Victorian architecture was never very popular in spain) kind of house with really good fresh juices... very much worth the while. Un sitio espectacular!! ....me quede boquiabierta cuando llegamos y al entrar... despues de no mucho callejear por un barrio de viviendas donde no esperarias encontrarte mucho mas entramos en este lugar. Que sitio, que estilo, que clase...
