An excellent free guide. During the low season, it's very easy to have a fantastic private tour of the underground temple. It would be nice to have a few more explanatory panels, but the museum's resources are very good. It's mandatory to buy tickets online to reserve the free tour.

There are missing explanatory panels with details about each room, located next to the maps along the site. Nevertheless, the person at the entrance was very friendly and kind. It's worth mentioning that the restrooms were very clean.

A unique site due to its preservation, in addition to the displayed pieces. There is a very interesting and comprehensive numismatic collection. I highly recommend taking a guided tour. It seems that it doesn't attract as many visitors as other centers, which could be an incentive to visit on those days when you see more people in the city (cruises, etc.).

The Empire strikes back at the Augusteum in Cartago Nova, undoubtedly one of the most bizarre combinations I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing. What were once the remains of a college of Augustales (freedmen often serving as priests dedicated to the worship of the family deities of Emperor Augustus and the imperial family) are now partially hidden and adorned with a collection of objects that are far removed from the original purpose that the archaeological basement might have had. Believe it or not, the ancient Augusteum is currently being used as an exhibition hall, specifically one that showcases a collection about Star Wars. I am one of the biggest fans of this incredibly important saga and understand its significance in the film world, but we must acknowledge that what has been done here is to exploit invaluable ruins to display a few costumed figures. Placing the racing ships from Episode One next to parts of the building's base because they 'look like' the mountains of the desert planet Tatooine is undoubtedly one of the most ingeniously foolish displays I have had the (mis)fortune of witnessing. Without a doubt, the power of the Force helped me navigate this bizarre tour filled with overwhelming disbelief, as where we should find an Augustus, we instead encounter a Darth Vader, Yoda is hidden somewhere, and among the masonry walls and remnants of impressive columns, there is a petrified Han Solo. I'm not one to judge anyone's intelligence or creativity, but using ancient Roman ruins merely as a space to host exhibitions, beyond being an absolute disrespect to the legendary past of one of the most important metropolises in the Mediterranean, is a complete lack of taste. The Star Wars theme doesn't even fit well with the chosen setting, and unless this was the work of the Sith's revenge (or whoever), I cannot understand the arbitrariness of selecting this space to host the collection. There must be plenty of suitable exhibition spaces in any town, but very few modern cities have the remains of such an important building from the Roman period, and to think that the site lacks the interest and spectacularity that it needs to be adorned with a fictional glaze is not only an attack on historical past but also an insult to the intelligence of those of us who pay to access the site. I really like the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi; however, what I didn’t see anywhere was signage that effectively explained the history and spatial layout of the Augusteum. The few signs that are available will tell you the story of each character in the saga, but not with much detail. They do have a lock of Ewok hair from the original movie, though. It pains me greatly to give such a rating since both the ruins and the exhibition are excellent; they simply should never have converged in the same place. The rating reflects the treatment given to the ruins. Unfortunately, as the space currently stands, I cannot recommend it to those who wish to visit to appreciate its true archaeological value. I hope that at some point this nonsense comes to an end, that those managing the space regain their sanity, appreciate the authentic cultural and heritage treasure they have ridiculed, and that, with a bit of luck, the original appearance that such a building deserves is restored soon.

The basement ruins were the least-interesting I visited in Cartagena. There wasn't even much explanation. They did have good temporary exhibit of Harry Potter memorabilia. Worth stopping in if you get the all-inclusive ticket to the sites.

We thought we went through the wrong door when we went to see ancient ruins but there was mostly just Harry Potter figures on display. Bizarre. Of the very limited archeology, there was absolutely no information whatsoever, no poster, nothing. It was also fairly expensive for what it was (€4 EUR p.p.) and we spent only 5 minutes there. If choosing museums, the Foro Romano, the Amphitheatre and Casa de la Fortuna are worth a visit, the Augusteum isn't.

Regarding the Egyptian items. Some of the smaller items are in a compartment with temperature displayed but when I asked the management they told me everything was replicated.

Enjoyed the temporary exhibition, Treasures of Egypt they had on. The museum of Augusteum would of been better if there was some information about what you were seeing in the temple.

Impressive. Archeological site which has marble that is still polished and shining. Amazing place to jump into ancient Roman history.
