The wild ride actually started before the divisional title was even on the line. Fishing The MidAtlantic tournament on Thursday, angler Dave McKendrick, aboard the Taylor Jean, reeled in an absolute sea monster: a 680-pound blue marlin.

That single, tournament-topping fish earned the crew a staggering $1.47 million. But there was no time to pop the champagne—they had an Atlantic Division title to chase over the weekend, and they were starting from behind.

High Stakes and Shaved Heads

Heading into Sunday's final offshore run, the Sea Birds trailed the defending champion Lights Out Boston by 275 points. It took them exactly 23 minutes after "lines in" to erase that gap.

The action on the deck was as hilarious as it was intense. Having won the heaviest fish honors earlier in the week, McKendrick had a bet to settle. Right in the middle of the championship showdown, the clippers came out, and he had his head shaved and mustache dyed. The fresh look must have been lucky: at 2:16 p.m., McKendrick released a crucial white marlin, and teammate Jay Brower added another shortly after to give New Jersey a commanding 1,400-point lead.
