The watchtower is very well preserved and open for interior visits. The views are breathtaking. I highly recommend it.

We arrived 15 minutes before when a tour was supposed to be happening, excited to check out this tower. No signage, no ticket office, no tour guide, no entrance. So we didn't get to find out about this place. A little disappointed that we never could figure out where they have the ticket office. Maybe the website should mention you have to go elsewhere to initiate the tour.

I liked it for the views, you can go up and visit it. (I didn't do it because I was with dogs). Next to it, there are Roman ruins where archaeologists are working. It's worth going to see them.

The watchtower of Illeta is located next to the Yacht Club of El Campello and the archaeological site of Illeta del Banyets. It was built in the 16th century between 1554 and 1557 to prevent attacks from Berber pirates. It has the shape of a truncated cone, with a diameter of 6 meters at the base and 5 meters at the highest point. There is a door located in the middle, which required access via a "cat" ladder or rope. It was declared a Cultural Heritage Site and restored in 1992. On October 12, 1987, a tragedy occurred nearby during the celebration of the Moors and Christians Festival, when a strong explosion from a cannon and its charge, which carried a box, took place. Several people lost their lives and many were injured. May they rest in peace. It is situated in a privileged area in terms of views.

This tower fascinated me since I was a child when I first saw it while strolling through Campello, and my father would tell me about it. It is located just a few meters from the marina and the yacht club, at the highest point and visible from any place in the village. It was built in the 16th century, specifically in 1557, by order of the Viceroy of Valencia, D. Buenaventura de Cárdenas, and served as a defense system against attacks from Berber pirates. It stands out from the other towers on the Costa Valenciana due to its magnificent condition, having been restored in 1990, and it serves as a symbol for the residents of Campello. It is used as a backdrop for various events, especially for the Moors and Christians festival held in October. It is undoubtedly the emblem of the locality. A highly recommended place to visit.

A huge tower. I reached this through biking from Alicante city centre in less than an hour. From the foot of the tower, one can see La Isleta-an archaeological site nearby, and another tower on top of a hill near the sea. Not much to see around it though. But there are stairs to climb at the lower hip of the tower to see a clearer view of surroundings. It was closed when we were there.

Only open to small group visits occasionally and school trips. Great views interesting history but nothing of interest in the tower. A small display of information about the period and history would enhance the experience.
