Interesting little museum housing remains of old Catherganian defensive wall. Good info about founding of the city, and conquest by the Romans which puts all the Roman ruins elsewhere in context. Staff very helpful with buying combi ticket to see all the sites.

A great place to visit first in Cartagena. A short film sets context for all a visitor is about to see in town. I learned history and experienced the structures lived in so long ago. A very helpful receptionist guided us.

Upon arrival, you can watch a very interesting video. The remains of the wall aren't extensive, but it's fortunate that they have been preserved. In addition to the wall, you can visit the crypt. There are informative signs throughout. There's also a gift shop and restrooms available.

The Punic wall of Cartagena (3rd century BC) is the only visible fragment that remains. It's well-preserved and can be viewed from above for a better appreciation. Upon entering the museum and after purchasing your ticket, you'll be taken to a room where you can watch a 10-minute video that provides a clearer understanding of what you'll be exploring next. Excavations also uncovered a crypt beneath the Hermitage of San José (16th-17th century). The entire site is worth a visit if you're in the area.

They showcase a small section of the wall, which serves as an interpretation center, featuring a brief exhibition on the Punic and Carthaginian origins of the city and its historical challenges. Founded by Hasdrubal, Hannibal's father, who famously crossed the Alps with an army of elephants, and later conquered by the highly skilled Publius Cornelius Scipio 'the African.' Two brilliant strategists, representing the two great powers of the Mediterranean, clashing violently, fighting to the point of annihilation or ultimate victory. (If you've read Posteguillo's novels about Scipio, you'll enjoy your visit to Cartagena even more. And vice versa: visiting Roman Cartagena enhances your appreciation for Posteguillo's novels.) The building itself is architecturally interesting, the shop and exhibition are well organized, and the woman who assisted us was very pleasant, providing us with a wealth of information about other points of interest. Making a cultural site function well is a challenge, and ensuring that such a small place operates effectively is a double challenge. Congratulations.

My visit to the Interpretation Center of the Punic Wall turned out to be a fascinating journey into the origins of Cartagena. I must admit that I didn't expect much upon arrival, but I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The modern building, constructed over the archaeological remains themselves, indicates that this is not your typical museum. As I descended into the excavated area, I felt a genuine chill when I stood before the imposing stones of the 3rd-century BC Carthaginian wall, pausing in front of these rocks that withstood the siege by Scipio Africanus during the Second Punic War. The feeling of visually touching the foundations of ancient Qart-Hadast is hard to describe. The guide's explanations and the informative panels allowed me to fully grasp the strategic importance of this defensive stronghold. I could envision what life must have been like in that fortified city, imagining Punic soldiers watching from these very walls. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the Byzantine funerary crypt and the remains of the Roman curia, which showcase the successive layers of history that this place holds. I left the center with a much deeper and tangible understanding of Cartagena's Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Roman past. It's a must-visit for any history lover wanting to truly understand the foundations of this wonderful city.

I loved the museum! The building is beautiful. Built in a very clever way, as the museum guide explained to me, it was designed to recreate the space that the wall originally occupied. The museum staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their culture and city. They did everything they could to make me feel more than welcome. Thank you!

This small museum shows an ancient piece of Cartagena history. The Punic wall surrounded the city in the 3rd century BC. The ability to admire relics that are 2500 years old is not an everyday experience. This is why I recommend this place. The museum is partially wheelchair accessible.
