The city of Cartagena and the Spanish Armada form an unbreakable bond, simply because this city has been for many years a residence for replacement sailors. Rightly so, it now showcases this beautiful sculpture in the town hall square, next to the port, in honor of the hundreds of thousands of people from all over Spain who served here, including myself.

REPLACEMENT SAILOR. CARTAGENA, MURCIA. A bronze work by artist Jorge García Aznar located in the Plaza de Cavite and Santiago de Cuba. A young man dressed in uniform carrying a mat on his back walks to the Training Barracks to undergo military service. The artist's name can be seen on the strap he holds in his hand. Access for the disabled is provided, along with a large historical memorial.
