Walk is great with amazing views of Cartagena, lacks entry to the castle though. Landing point at the top is also lackluster, of course the view is great!

It's best to climb up to enjoy the views, even though the castle itself is surrounded by an impassable perimeter. The trend of using these historical sites for "antenna placement" is concerning. On one hand, we're told they are "privately owned", while on the other hand, they can't be visited and, of course, they mar the monument itself... Nevertheless, should you tackle the climb? Yes, absolutely: go for it. And if you're feeling brave, descend and continue "towards Fajardo", even better. Just be very careful whether you're walking, running, or cycling... pay close attention to the current road expansion works.

There is no way to access the interior of this castle because it is completely fenced off. In fact, there are signs indicating "Military zone prohibited". The only day it is open is on the day of the Ruta de las Fortalezas, and it is opened exclusively for runners. Although the castle is closed, many people climb up daily, as it is quite rewarding to make a little effort to reach the top.

Even though the castle is closed, it's a nice place to walk. The ascent is on asphalt from Navantia, about 6 km round trip.

The walk up to the fortress is a bit over 3 kilometers. The path is a solid road, so it’s manageable, but it’s quite steep and there’s not much shade along the way — bring water and a hat if you're going during the day. Unfortunately, the fortress at the top is closed and fenced off, so you can’t go inside. However, it’s still worth the hike for the beautiful panoramic views of Cartagena and the surrounding area. There is a public parking lot right at the base of the hill, which makes the start of the hike easily accessible. There are several other fortresses around Cartagena — if one of them is open to the public and located on a smaller hill, it might be a better choice for visiting, especially if you're looking for easier access or an actual historical site to explore.

Not too steep and not too high. a perfect climb for beginners. The path is in pretty good condition too. There’s a few signs saying “no entry” and that it’s owned by the military but no need to panic the area is safe and free to enter. The castle itself is closed off to the public but the views from outside it are spectacular. Also on the way down I’d recommend taking a detour to the fortress of Fajardo where you can see more of the old military bases and batteries

Cycled to the top, unfortunately the Castle is closed. There are signs in Spanish saying dangerous for cyclists. The views once you get to the top are fantastic. I can understand why the sign says dangerous for cyclists, the switch backs are fun but keep your 👀 on the road take care and enjoy the ride down

Beautiful views of the city of Cartagena. It's a shame that it's closed to the public. The ascent is very gentle and usually frequented by cyclists.

The best views of Cartagena about 1000 ft above sea level. Very isolated, access the main trail up the mountain to the right of Navantia's main entrance. Just go around the gate that states "your not allowed" lol I did the paved switch back on a borrowed mountain bike, a good pair of running or walking shoes is also ideal.
