A great walk from Alicante

An excellent route to connect with nature and escape the chaos of traffic (buses, cars, motorcycles, and noise pollution). This path can be enjoyed by walking, jogging, running, walking the dog, cycling, skating, scootering, etc. A great way to go trekking without much difficulty. It connects Albufereta Beach to Postiguet Beach, and along the way you can appreciate the Mediterranean Sea, the rocks, tunnels and passageways, and the beaches and coves.

I discovered this route by chance and for me it is one of the most beautiful places in Alicante. Especially at sunrise it is magical! It is great for walking the dog, running or cycling.

Taking advantage of the old narrow-gauge railway track (FEVE) that fell into disuse at the end of 2018 with the opening of the new route of line 1 of the TRAM through Sierra Grossa, a 1,200-meter stretch has been transformed into a pedestrian walkway shared with cyclists. With a dirt surface and some cemented areas in the longer tunnels, it has a slight upward slope heading north, connecting Postiguet Beach (the Sangueta stop) with Sol Naciente Street in La Albufereta. Along the way, we can enjoy several viewpoints overlooking the sea, such as the one at Principe, and four tunnels of varying lengths: Promontorio (15 m), Alazán (15 m), Rocafel (80 m), and Finca Adoc (320 m). There are certain risks, especially for children, not only due to the embankments but also because the route lacks a designated area for bicycles, and the stretch from Sol Naciente Street to the seafront of La Albufereta could be better organized. Additionally, the intermediate rest area should provide some shade given the local temperatures. Parking is another issue that needs addressing, although there is an unpaved area at the start from the Sangueta stop. The other option is at Postiguet, but it tends to be quite crowded.

The newly inaugurated shared pedestrian and cyclist path, known as Vía Verde de la Cantera, is a great use of facilities that had become obsolete, making good use of existing elements. The views are excellent, with areas of benches for sitting, resting, and enjoying the scenery. It's a great way to extend the promenade, and we hope this sets an example and doesn't stop here.
